HECO volunteers help spruce up Mayor Wright Homes
More than 40 volunteers from Hawaiian Electric Company, led by the Safety, Security & Facilities Division, spent a Saturday at Mayor Wright Homes where they helped scrub, mop, grout, repair cabinetryand electrical outlets, and paint wallsand ceilings at several units in the low-income housing complex.
According to the Hawaii Public Housing Authority, about 200 housing units are vacant due to a lack of staff and funding to make the necessary repairs while some 9,000 families are currently on the wait list for public housing. The effort by Hawaiian Electric will allow four more families to move in to the state-run housing complex by this month. Mayor Wright is home to more than a thousand tenants.
