Photographed on Maui from a safe distance on a high overlooking cliff with a 300mm telephoto lens. The mother was basking but some sand crabs disturbed her. I think in this photo she is looking back to check the tide as the wave wash was beginning to reach her and her pup. She must have been satisfied with their spot as she went back to resting.

This photograph, taken a couple of years ago, looks out over the Tafuna plains in American Samoa. Pago Pago International airport sits right off the ocean at just about sea level and can be seen in the middle, left of this photograph. As of this posting we are waiting for aftermath pictures to come out from the two Samoas. In the meantime, our prayers to go out to all those who have been affected by this devastating natural disaster.
These photos of Pago Harbor were taken a couple of years ago. They show one of the most scenic and perfect natural harbors in the South Pacific. The pictures also show how it was possible for the tsunami to channel its destructive force, ultimately resulting in the loss of both human life and property. The “Tribute in Light” in New York City honors the victims and rescue personnel of the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center. The towers of light are created every September 11 by two banks of 44 searchlights each on a site next to Ground Zero. This shot, taken near E. 4th and Broadway, marked the 2008 anniversary. The tribute will shine again this year, but future funding is needed to ensure annual lighting of the memorial beacons.
